How do I know if my PNG is transparent?

My image looks transparent but the tool says it is not, why?

A lot of AI clipart only looks transparent because it is sitting on a white background. On a white page you cannot tell the difference. The checker looks at the actual pixels, so it catches the white background that is really still there.

Can a JPEG be transparent?

No. JPEG has no transparency channel at all, so any JPEG is fully opaque. To have a transparent background, the file must be a PNG (or WebP) with the background removed.

How do I make it actually transparent?
