How to Split a Sheet of Clipart into Separate Images
AI tools love to hand you a whole sheet of clipart in a single image: a dozen little elements arranged on one page. Lovely to look at, but you cannot sell a sheet. Each element needs to be its own separate, transparent, print-ready file.
Cutting them apart by hand is the slow part. Here is what that job involves, and the fastest way to turn one sheet into a tidy set of individual PNGs.
Why AI gives you a sheet in the first place
When you ask an AI tool for clipart, it often arranges several designs onto one canvas, like a contact sheet. It looks efficient, but every element is stuck together in a single image on one shared background. To sell them, you have to separate each one, remove the background, and get each up to print resolution.
The slow way (by hand)
- Open the sheet in Canva, Photoshop or similar.
- Crop or lasso each element and copy it into its own file.
- Remove the background from each one so it is truly transparent.
- Upscale each piece to 300 DPI so it is big enough to sell.
- Trim, name and export every file one by one.
For a sheet of ten or twelve elements, doing all of that by hand can easily eat an evening, and it is fiddly to keep every piece consistent.
