How to Make Small AI Clipart Bigger for Print

AI clipart usually comes out too small to print well. To make it bigger for print you upscale it to the pixel size your print needs at 300 DPI, using a tool that rebuilds detail rather than a basic resize that just stretches it soft.

How big does clipart need to be?

Print quality is 300 DPI at the finished size, so the pixel count is what matters. At 300 DPI a 12 inch print needs 3600px on the long side, a 15 inch print needs 4500px, and 20 inches needs 6000px. Most raw AI clipart is well below that, which is why it needs enlarging.

Why a normal resize won't do it

Dragging a small image bigger in a basic editor keeps the same pixels and spreads them over more space, so it goes soft and fuzzy. An AI upscaler reconstructs real detail as it enlarges, so lines and edges stay crisp at the bigger size.

How to do it

  1. Upload your clipart, one or a whole batch.
  2. Pick a target: Clipart (3600px), Wall art and POD (4500px), or Maximum (6000px).
  3. Let it upscale, rebuilding detail as it enlarges.
  4. Download at full print resolution as a transparent PNG.

Start from the largest output your AI tool offers (aim for at least ~1000px). Under that, even a good upscaler has little to work with.

Clipart Prep Studio upscales to a true 300 DPI at your chosen print size, on a whole batch at once. Your first 5 images are free, no card.

Common questions

How do I make an image bigger for printing?
Upscale it to the pixel count your print size needs at 300 DPI, using an AI upscaler that rebuilds detail. A 12 inch print needs 3600px on the long side, 15 inches needs 4500px.
Will enlarging clipart make it blurry?
A basic resize will, because it just stretches the existing pixels. An AI upscaler adds detail as it enlarges, so it stays sharp, the opposite of the soft, stretched look.
What size should clipart be for print on demand?
Aim for 300 DPI at the finished size. 4500px on the long side covers most POD products comfortably.
How big for wall art or posters?
Larger prints need more pixels: a 20 inch print needs 6000px on the long side at 300 DPI. Upscale to that from the biggest source you have.
