Why Your Clipart Has a White Box Behind It (and the Fix)
If your clipart has a white box behind it when you place it on a colour, the background was never actually removed, it is still a solid white layer. To fix it you remove that background properly and save a genuinely transparent PNG.
Why the white box appears
- The file has a solid white background that only looks transparent against white apps.
- It was saved as a JPG, which cannot be transparent and fills empty areas with white.
- It was made in Canva without Pro, so the transparent download did not keep the cutout.
How to fix it
- Upload the clipart with the white box.
- Remove the background so the white is replaced with real transparency.
- Keep edge cleanup on so there is no pale halo left where the box was.
- Save as a PNG (never JPG), then test it on a coloured background.
Quick test before you list: drop the file onto a bright colour. If a white rectangle shows, the background is still there, if the colour shows through, it is truly transparent.
Clipart Prep Studio removes the white background, clears the edges and saves a true transparent PNG, across a whole batch at once. Your first 5 images are free, no card.
Common questions
- Why does my clipart have a white box behind it?
- Because the background is still a solid white layer, it was never actually removed. It hides against white but shows as a box on any colour. Remove the background and save as a transparent PNG.
- How do I get rid of the white box around my clipart?
- Run it through a background remover so the white becomes real transparency, keep edge cleanup on to avoid a halo, and save as PNG.
- Why does my clipart show a white background on Etsy?
- It only looked transparent against white; the white background is still in the file. A buyer placing it on a colour sees the box. Fix it with a proper transparent PNG.
- Why does Canva leave a white background on my clipart?
- Removing a background and keeping it transparent on download needs Canva Pro. Without it, the export keeps a background. A dedicated remover gives a clean transparent PNG without Canva Pro.
